French Country Charm.
Happy Friday everyone! Can you believe its the middle of June already!. This year has just flown by and I still have sooo much todo around the house. Like creating a little, French Country Charm in our new bedroom…ooh La la!
Finally the bedroom make-over is done….I say done….loosely….I keep adding more things, like this DIY French Country shelf above the bed, and the MR & MRS letters and lets not forget the bench I have yet to build for the foot of the bed.
Anyway, here is what I have….so far.
I came into possession of this awesome bedroom set about 8 month’s ago ( it was a trade) and an excellent one at that. They just don’t make furniture like this anymore.
Now if you know me at all, you know I paint everything and even though I loved this bedroom set as it was, it just had to be painted.
The bed we had before was made from driftwood. I loved that bed (probably because my hubby made it for us….15 years ago), it was time for a change.
Wow! cant believe it’s been that long.
The walls where painted a dark brown below the chair rail and a lighter beige on the top. Which, with the primitive furniture I had in the bedroom, was perfect. However as you all know I am changing my home from primitive to more of a French Country look. I was getting tired of the dark colors and wanted something cleaner and brighter looking.
I chose two shades of grey for the walls and painted the bedroom set with Annie Sloan Pure White Chalk Paint with a black chalk paint undercoating, (I made this myself). for more details on how to make chalk paint click here.
Adding a little whimsy to a room is perfect for creating French Country Charm.
Of course a new bedroom deserves new bedding and new curtains which I found at Bed bath and Beyond. My new favorite for ‘go to household items’.
I also added the DIY shelf above the bed to house the MR & MRS letters and a few other items. For the rest of the walls I bought what I think is good bedroom art….if there is such a thing. I’m never sure what is appropriate for bedroom walls. like, I know I’m not going to put up pictures of my in-laws or anything like that. So I chose prints that, to me, look calming and relaxing. I think they work…. The pictures of the Eifel tower are actually made with material I found on sale at Hobby Lobby.
What do you think? is grey the new white? I love it, so clean and bright and has that French Country Charm I was looking for……time for a nap..
