Happy Tuesday everyone…

Its been a busy couple of days around here, but I am finally ready for valentines day. Hence the red roses… diy bird nest

And…

I finally got to makeover this coffee table. Its been staring at me for a couple of months. Just crying out for some TLC and a coat of Chalk Paint.

And… some new legs.

YOU WILL NEED.

  • Drill
  • Screws/ 21/4″ and 11/4″
  • 4×4 Treated pine post
  • 51/4 Ball feet/ Fence Post Toppers
  • #3 Pine, cut to Depth of table 5″ wide
  • Wood Glue
  • Sander
  • 120 grit sand paper
  • Chalk Paint. I used Old White and French Linen.
  • wax
  • Minwax stain. I used Jacobean.

I first removed all the hardware and the base, then gave it a good wash with some mild soap and water. The top had seen better days I’m afraid so I had to do some sanding to remove all the scratches.

To make the legs I used 4×4 treated pine posts. I started with a piece 20″ in length and set my table saw at a 45. Then ran the edges through.

The ball feet, which are actually a Fence Toppers, are 51/4″ in height, so I cut the 4×4 post into 31/4″ lengths making the legs 81/2″ total height.

To attach the feet to the posts I simply marked my center on the bottom and drilled a hole. With a little glue I attached the feet. to the legs.

Using my Mouse Sander, I gave the legs a good sanding to take of the sharp edges, then attached them to 2 boards cut the depth of the top of the table.

Here Comes The Fun Part.

Once the legs were attached I painted the entire table with Annie Sloan, Old White Chalk Paint . After applying a second coat I then had the brilliant idea of painting the legs, draws and the top with French Linen chalk paint

I did not like the way that looked, so I again, painted the entire table with the old white, except the top, I wanted the top darker. I lightly sanded the edges to give the piece a worn look and then applied 2 coats of Jacobean Minwax to the table top.

This was the first time I had used a Minwax stain on chalk paint and also the first time using Jacobean, I really like the color…

Once the paint and stain was completely dry I then took on the arduous task of waxing. Apply a clear wax to the legs and body of the table and on the top apply the Dark Wax .

I love the way the color turned out on the top of the table. What do you think?
