French Country Buffet Makeover.
Last year, on one of those rare occasions, my hubby and I had a little time to get out for the day…we decided to visit a little town about 40 miles south of where we live. Hazel, KY.
I was shocked (pleasantly, I might add) I had never been here before, but fell in love right away with all the little shops and the super huge Antique store, Hazel Antique Mall. It did not take me long to find this Buffet and for $100….well let’s just say it went home with us.

The buffet needed some work, but nothing too major, just a little TLC and a coat of paint.
Some of the veneer had peeled off on the top of the buffet and the rail on the bottom needed to be glued back in place.
TIP:Â To remove veneer… spray the area you want to remove with warm water, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then using a hot iron, simply hold the iron for a few seconds in one place and push the steam setting. The veneer will lift and peel right off.
 The French Country look
After I had removed all the veneer from the top I sanded the entire piece and then wiped it off with a mild soap and water.
I then covered the buffet with a coat of Duck Egg Blue, A/S Chalk paint. Once that was dry, I then applied 2 coats of Pure White. (the first coat I watered down just a little)
I wanted a bit of a distressed look and also wanted to reveal some of the Duck Egg Blue. SO… I sanded the edges of the buffet and doors using a 220 grit sandpaper. Once all the paint was dry I then applied a coat of clear wax.
What do you think? I love it.
