Get A French Country Look On A Budget

Have you ever just stared at your walls and thought of ways to re-design them? I do it all the time.

I will start with a small section and by the time I am done I’ve re-created the whole room, in my head. This particular wall, by my front door, is where it started. I wanted a French Country look so I began the task of finding picture frames to paint. Of course their should be a small table/shelf and what better  to use than Corbels.

Don’t you just love Corbels, they just add so much dimension and class.

They can be a little pricey and finding the right size can be a job in itself. So, I made my own. To see more on DIY Corbels click here.

Now for some pop, I needed color. I visited my favorite store or at least one of them, Hobby Lobby, and picked some candles and flower stems, all 50% off. I spent $24.00 on two large candles and three flower stems.

I could hardly wait to see the finished product, but my job had just begun.

On the Frames I used Annie Sloan Chalk paint, Old White and distressed the edges just a little. Then used Annie Sloan clear wax to seal the paint.

I found all these picture frames for less than $15.00 at the Nashville Flea Market.

Note to self, take a small wagon or cart to flea mkt’s. It get’s very laborious carrying all these picture frames around.

I added some black and white family pictures to the frames and voila, they where done now to building my small table/shelf.

My wall was beginning take shape, but there was just a few more elements to add. I had the Frames the Table my candles and flower stems, now to add a little interest.

I added a few Deer sheds and a pair of tin angles which I found at an Antique store for $10.00, also the candle holders, $12.00 for the pair. Now to put it all together.

My favorite part.

What do you think? My boring wall now has some character. So on to the next project, the rest of the walls.
