About
This Blog is about my passion for design, my love to build, re-purpose and paint old furniture and my desire to create the perfect country home for my family and friends.
You see, I came to this wonderful country many years ago, still “wet behind the ears” very nervous, but with great expectations.
I came here from England, which back then I thought was a dreary, boring place that was always foggy and rained a lot, which made for some very bad hair day’s.
I thought that in America everyone wore poodle skirts and had big cars and big houses and it was always sunny and the guy’s looked like Richie or the Fonze on Happy Day’s. Boy was I wrong. Although my first hubby did look a bit like Richie, freckles and all.
I quickly learned that the grass is never greener on the other side, it’s only as green as you make it. So after many years I finally found my forever home, with a husband that loves and adores me, three grown children and three perfect grandchildren. We have dogs and chickens, two huge turkeys, geese, and my love, curly the horse.
We live in the country on five acres, just an ordinary home not some magnificent old farm-house or one of the stately homes I would visit as a child, just a simple little house with lots and lots of potential, and room to grow.
I love the nostalgia of an old piece of furniture or chipped paint on an old picture frame, I love flower gardens and stone paths and walls, secret gardens and the smell of freshly mown grass. I love to cook and create my own recipes using my memories from when I was in the kitchen with my Mum. She was the best cook.
I love to get my hands dirty, whether that’s building a new piece of furniture or re-purposing an old piece, digging in my garden or making containers for my flowers. I love my life, and with a little imagination and lots of research we are well on our way to creating the perfect country home. Our castle. Our piece of paradise.
I hope you will join us on our journey and along the way be inspired, pick up some tips or ideas so you too can have the prefect country home, wherever you live.
And remember: Hope means never letting go of your dreams!
