Shabby Chic Drum Table.
Drum role please….could not resist that one.
I found this little Drum table at one of my favorite auction houses about a month ago. It had been painted with a mustard and red…who knows what….kind of paint and not in a very nice way….yuck!
It was so sad-looking. The feet needed replacing and a serious face lift was a must…who would do that to this charming little drum table? Fortunately for me, I didn’t have to do any sanding or stripping. Chalk Paint is an excellent choice when refinishing or re-doing a previously painted piece.
I wanted to try some new color combinations and thought this drum table would be the perfect project for experimenting on. Why not pink and grey? It seems I am on a grey kick right now…As you can see here in my bedroom make-over
Any way if your like me you probably have to start with a clean pallet, a blank canvas as such….and the mustard and red was just so….in my face that I had to paint the drum table black first….I made the black CP myself you can see the recipe here
Once the black HMCP was dry I then painted the body and feet of the Drum table ASCP French Linen and the detailed areas and top with….wait for it….Valspar satin Satinado…… I know right. I don’t want to say I’m cheap, just thrifty and since this was a new color combination I didn’t want to invest in a full can of chalk paint. so instead I picked up one of those sample colors at lowes and added a little Plaster of Paris and water so the texture would be the same as the French Linen….Smart!.
After the paint had dried I wet sanded the edges and applied a clear coat of wax. This Shabby Chic Drum table needed a little age so I then applied a dark wax around the edges of the detailed areas.
Dark wax can be a little hard to work with so I mixed the dark wax with some clear wax as not to give too much of a dark appearance.
I love the way the this little Drum Table turned out and the colors work well together….perfect for a little girls room or that Shabby Chic look.
Let me know what you guys think, I love hearing from you.
